তিনি গত ৮ মার্চ বাংলাদেশ সচিবালয়ে স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ের সম্মেলন কক্ষে মহান স্বাধীনতা ও জাতীয় দিবস উদযাপন উপলক্ষ্যে প্রস্তুতিমূলক সভা শেষে সাংবাদিকদের ব্রিফিংয়ে এ কথা জানান।

গত ৮ মার্চ স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ের প্রেস বিজ্ঞপ্তির মাধ্যমে এ তথ্য জানা যায়।

এ সিদ্ধান্ত কার্যকর হয়েছে গত ২১ জানুয়ারি থেকে। এর ফলে অভিবাসন সংক্রান্ত যাচাই-বাছাই প্রক্রিয়া ও নীতিমালার পূর্ণাঙ্গ পর্যালোচনার সুযোগ তৈরি হবে বলে মনে করছে যুক্তরাষ্ট্র।
