পারিবারিক সূত্রে জানা যায়, তিনি দীর্ঘদিন ধরে বার্ধক্যজনিত বিভিন্ন জটিলতায় ভুগছিলেন। শুক্রবার রাত ১২টা ৪৫ মিনিটে তিনি ঢাকাস্থ বাসভবনে শেষ নিঃশ্বাস ত্যাগ করেন। তাঁর মৃত্যুর সংবাদ ছড়িয়ে পড়লে পরিবার, আত্মীয়স্বজন, শুভাকাঙ্ক্ষী, সহকর্মী সাংবাদিক, রাজনৈতিক ও সামাজিক বিভিন্ন শ্রেণি–পেশার মানুষের মাঝে গভীর শোকের ছায়া নেমে আসে।

দেশের বিভিন্ন সংগঠন, বিশেষ করে সাংবাদিক সমাজ মরহুমের মৃত্যুতে গভীর শোক প্রকাশ করেছে। বাংলাদেশ সেন্ট্রাল প্রেস ক্লাব (B.C.P.C.), জাতীয় দৈনিক মাতৃজগত পত্রিকার সম্পাদকমণ্ডলী, রিপোর্টার্স ইউনিটসহ দেশজুড়ে অসংখ্য সংগঠন এক বিবৃতিতে শোকসন্তপ্ত পরিবারের প্রতি গভীর সমবেদনা জ্ঞাপন করে।

প্রেস ক্লাবের পক্ষ থেকে জানানো হয়—
“মোঃ ইসমাইল মিয়া ছিলেন অত্যন্ত বিনয়ী, মানবিক ও সদালাপী একজন মানুষ। তিনি সবসময় পরিবার, সমাজ ও মানুষের কল্যাণে নিবেদিত ছিলেন। তাঁর মৃত্যু আমাদের জন্য এক অপূরণীয় ক্ষতি। আমরা মরহুমের রুহের মাগফিরাত কামনা করছি এবং শোকাহত পরিবারের প্রতি গভীর সমবেদনা জানাচ্ছি।”

পারিবারিকভাবে জানানো হয়েছে যে, মরহুমের জানাজা ও দাফনের সময়সূচি পরে জানিয়ে দেওয়া হবে। পরিবারের পক্ষ থেকে মরহুমের বিদেহী আত্মার মাগফিরাত কামনা করা হয় এবং সবাইকে তাঁর জন্য দোয়া করার অনুরোধ জানানো হয়েছে।

এসএম বদরুল আলমঃ সাবেক প্রধানমন্ত্রী ও বিএনপি চেয়ারপারসন বেগম খালেদা জিয়ার রোগমুক্তি কামনায় মিরপুর প্রেসক্লাবের উদ্যোগে দোয়া ও মিলাদ মাহফিল অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছে। দীর্ঘদিন ধরে তিনি রাজধানীর এভার কেয়ার হাসপাতালে চিকিৎসাধীন থাকায় তার দ্রুত সুস্থতা কামনা করে প্রেসক্লাব কার্যালয়ে এ আয়োজন করা হয়। মিলাদ মাহফিল পরিচালনা করেন মাওলানা খোরশেদ আলম।

অনুষ্ঠানে প্রধান উপদেষ্টা ও দৈনিক পাঞ্জেরীর সম্পাদক তালুকদার রুমি বলেন, “বেগম খালেদা জিয়া জাতির সম্পদ। তার সুস্থতার জন্য আমরা সবাই আজ একত্রিত হয়ে দোয়া করেছি। আল্লাহ যেন তাকে দ্রুত আরোগ্য দান করেন।”

প্রেসক্লাবের ভারপ্রাপ্ত সভাপতি এস এম বদরুল আলম বলেন, “আমরা সাংবাদিক সমাজ সর্বদা মানবিক দায়বদ্ধতার জায়গা থেকে দেশনেত্রীর পাশে আছি। তার সুস্থতা শুধু বিএনপি নয়, দেশের কোটি মানুষের প্রত্যাশা।”

প্রেসক্লাবের সাধারণ সম্পাদক মোঃ শিহাব উদ্দিন বলেন, “মিরপুর প্রেসক্লাব সামাজিক ও মানবিক কার্যক্রমে সবসময় অগ্রণী ভূমিকা পালন করে। আজকের দোয়া মাহফিলে সাংবাদিকদের স্বতঃস্ফূর্ত অংশগ্রহণ প্রমাণ করে—আমরা সকলেই দেশনেত্রীর দ্রুত আরোগ্য কামনা করি।”
